Last Saturday, November 11, the Blackstone Valley Boys & Girls Club held their third annual Comedy Night fundraiser. The event, which attracted 170 guests from the local communities, featured the comedic talents of Jon Fisch and Moody McCarthy – who have both been featured on the Last Comic Standing reality television show. The event was emceed by local comedian Joe List. Comedy Night was sponsored by businesses from round the Blackstone Valley, including Dean Bank, DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home and Safety Insurance. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the Fundraisers page.
The Boys & Girls Club would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, is truly was a night of laughs and we hope to see you all next year.
The Comedy Night event came a little over a week after the Ninety Nine Restaurant in Milford presented the BVBGC with a donation of $8,000 after a two-week auction of the nostalgic plaques that served as the restaurant’s décor. The auction was held in light of a remodeling at the Ninety Nine. Next time you visit the Ninety Nine Restaurant, be sure to say “thank you” on behalf of the Club.

On Thursday, October 26, 2006, the club welcomed Senator Richard Moore, Representative Jennifer Callahan, Rick Metters of the Massachusetts Alliance, Anthony Abdelahad, Senior Strategic Advisor of Senator Moore’s office and Tony Poti, Executive Director of the Dudley Boys and Girls Club. Here’s why they came:
Five years ago, the 39 Boys and Girls Clubs in Massachusetts formed an alliance known as the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs. The mission was simple: work as a team to lobby the legislature to appropriate funds for quality after school programs. This year with the help of Senator Moore, Representative Callahan, Representative Paul Kujawski and all our legislature friends on Capital Hill, $3 million was granted to the Mass alliance. The legislature saw the opportunity to invest in the states future, in the children’s future. They wanted to give children the opportunity to grow, learn, explore and to become a better person at a safe and positive place.
As a token of appreciation, the club gave Senator Moore, Representative Callahan and Representative Kujawski a Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club fleece pull over jacket. We hope they enjoy wearing them as they continue to support Boys and Girls Clubs of Massachusetts.
Now it is up to the children to make the best of this opportunity because they are the future leaders of tomorrow. The Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club would like to thank Senator Moore, Representative Callahan and Representative Kujawski for their support and generosity. It is appreciated by all our members and directors. The money given to us today will help make the club a better place where kids can come and have fun and feel safe.
